The Thai police have arrested three Vietnamese men for alleged involvement with a ring that forges passports for people traveling to the U.K.

Dang Trien Trung, 30, Pham Van Hung, 28, and Le Viet Lan, 22, were apprehended last Saturday at Suvarnabhumi Airport as they were leaving the country.

A search of their apartments subsequently turned up more than 20 forged passports, most of them reportedly stolen and altered and some with fake visa stamps, the Bangkok Post newspaper reported.

The police then arrested a local man, Wichit, in the Khao San Road area, and identified him as an accomplice who was in charge of selling the forged passports. They also seized 56,000 baht ($1,801) in cash from him.

Trung has been charged with using a forged passport, while the others with forging visa stamps in passports for other persons’ use, the police said Tuesday.

Around one million people from Vietnam visited Thailand in 2018, making the country one of the kingdom's top 10 tourism markets, according to a recent report by the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Citizens of ASEAN member nations can travel within the bloc without a visa for a maximum of 30 days in each country.
