A house fire broke out in an alley in HCMC’s Go Vap District on Sunday, killing a woman and her two children.

The 25-square-meter house on Thong Nhat Street caught fire around 12 a.m. on Sunday, prompting neighbors to try to extinguish the flames but to no avail.

Firefighters arrived shortly after to handle the situation.

After the fire was contained, police entered the scene and found the bodies.

The victims were a 90-year-old woman and her two children. Neighbors said one of them was the elderly lady’s 58-year-old daughter, who lived with her, and the other was her 52-year-old son, who had come to visit a day earlier.

The police said that since the house was small and cramped with many items, the fire intensified quickly, and the three trapped inside could not react fast enough.

They are now investigating the cause of the incident.
