Police in the southern province of Ca Mau have finally arrested three men who were caught on camera torturing two people last May.

They did not say why it took them so long to arrest Nguyen Cong Toan, Nguyen Van Ty and Nguyen Van Hung, all aged 34-38.

Three days ago video footage of fishermen Truong Van Trung and Le Van Binh being beaten and tortured aboard their boat in Ca Mau Province went viral on social media.

The two had immediately complained to the police, who allege however they did not file criminal charges but only sought money to cover their medical costs.

The reasons for the violence are not known either.

The police have not released any statements from the arrested trio, while the two victims are currently at sea.

On May 23 Trung was beaten badly by Toan, Ty and Hung who used pincers to remove his teeth and beat him up badly.

The trio assaulted Binh the next day using the same methods.

Video footage of the torture surfaced on social media triggered public anger, ostensibly forcing the police to act.
