A 28-year-old man in the central Quang Nam Province died on Saturday morning, becoming the youngest among Vietnam's 31 fatalities of Covid-19.

The man died of pneumonia caused by Covid-19, septic shock, multi-organ failure caused by acute lymphocytic leukemia, and aplastic anemia, the Health Ministry said.

He was admitted to the Da Nang Hospital in Da Nang that borders Quang Nam on July 25 for his other diseases.

Between August 4 and 8, he was transferred to the Da Nang Oncology Hospital. On August 18, he was transferred to the Da Nang Hospital for Lung Diseases and was confirmed positive for the new coronavirus the next day.

He stayed at the hospital for treatment until he died.

He has made the 31st and the youngest Covid-19 death in Vietnam so far. The other dead patients were between 33 and 93. All suffered chronic diseases before contracting the virus, with a majority having renal failure.

By Saturday, Vietnam has recorded 1,038 Covid-19 cases, including 342 active patients.

Of those that are still under treatment, 15 are in critical conditions, three are relying on ventilator and another three have to use ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) system.

Around the world, Covid-19 has claimed more than 841,300 lives.
