The southern province of Binh Duong plans to build a VND570 billion ($22.9 million) bridge next year to strengthen its links with Ho Chi Minh City.

Construction of the four-lane Binh Goi Bridge, nearly 1 km long and 20 m wide, would begin in the second quarter of 2022, Nguyen Thanh Thuan, deputy director of the Binh Duong Department of Transport, said Wednesday.

The bridge would connect Binh Duong's Thuan An Town with HCMC’s District 12. It would be the third bridge to be built over the Saigon River, after Phu Cuong and Phu Long bridges.

The new bridge will be a part of the Ring Road 3 project running through HCMC, Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Long An Provinces. It is considered to be a strategic traffic route, creating an urban and industrial corridor for the four localities and the southern key economic zone.

A 16 km section of the project has been invested in, while investments for the rest of the project, spanning over 76 km, have been approved by the National Assembly in June at over VND75 trillion ($3 billion). The project is set to be completed in three years.
