A tractor trailer hit the median strip of HCMC-Trung Luong Expressway Saturday afternoon, blocking traffic for three hours.

The collision happened at 3 p.m. in the Mekong Delta's Long An province, throwing the trailer across the opposite lane. The driver escaped without serious injuries.

The accident caused no other casualties, but caused traffic to backup for more than 10 km. The road was blocked for three hours until the tractor was moved away with cranes.

HCMC-Trung Luong Expressway opened to traffic in 2010 and is the only one connecting HCMC and the Mekong Delta.

Traffic flow has increased 30 percent since toll fee collection was stopped in early 2019, causing overload and road damage. More than 200 accidents have been recorded on the road since.

Last April, a tractor-trailer hit a barrier and flipped over on the expressway early in the morning, blocking traffic for four hours.
