The index closed 5.32 points higher after losing 5.21 points on Friday.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) fell by 14.48% to VND10.79 trillion ($456.43 million).
The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 15 tickers gain.
GVR of Vietnam Rubber Group led with a 3.9% rise, followed by BID of state-owned lender BIDV, up 2.7%.
BCM of Becamex Investment and Industrial Development closed 2.1% higher and VHM of property giant Vinhomes went up 1.6%.
Ten blue chips fell. NVL of property developer Novaland Group lost 2% and TCB of the largest private lender Techcombank closed 1.1% lower.
Foreign investors were net buyers to the tune of VND133.28 billion, mainly buying HPG of steelmaker Hoa Phat Group and SSI of leading brokerage SSI Securities Corporation.
The HNX-Index at the Hanoi Stock Exchange, where mid and small caps list, was down 0.32% while the UPCoM-Index at the Unlisted Public Companies Market was down by 0.27%.
