A woman walking on a village road in Lang Son Province on Jan. 24 noticed a pig jumping off a truck and wrangled it and returned it to the owner.

Luong Ngam chased after the vehicle, shouting at the driver about the animal but he did not hear her.

By then the pig had run into a field on the side of the road, and the 43-year-old woman called her husband and the two ran after it.

"The pig was panicking and very strong," she said later. "The two of us finally managed to wrangle the pig and tie its legs to prevent it from endangering people on the road."

She took photos of the animal and posted in local social media groups to find its owner.

Meanwhile, Thanh Chung, the driver, a Bac Ninh native, noticed his truck door had come loose and the pig he had bought for more than VND10 million (US$380) for Lunar New Year was missing.

After searching for around 40 minutes without success, he decided to buy another pig when friends informed him about Ngam’s post.

Later that day he got back the animal from Ngam and her husband in Nam Huong 1 village. He offered money as a gesture of thanks but Ngam declined. She said: "Losing something can be disappointing. I see this as a simple joy to close out the year."
