Fashion industry joins Covid battle with auction to raise funds

Fashion designers and models auction their clothes and jewelry to raise funds to support frontline Covid-19 workers.

They managed to raise VND2.6 billion ($114,575), which will be used to buy medical devices for hospitals that are involved in the battle against the pandemic.

The live-streamed auction organized by Trang Le, chairwoman of the Vietnam International Fashion Week, on Aug. 28 attracted a number of designers, singers and models.

Renowned fashion designer Cong Tri sold an ao dai for VND700 million.

He hoped people would show their love for the city, he said.

Thuy Nguyen, famous for creating outfits inspired by traditional styles, sold five ao dai for VND300 million.

Model H’Hen Nie’s jewels fetched VND80 million, while actress Truong Ngoc Anh sold diamond jewels for VND130 million.

Le said: "In many field hospitals in HCMC, Covid-19 patients are in a battle to stay alive. We hope members of the fashion industry give a helping hand for people to win this battle."

As of Monday, Vietnam has recorded 431,073 Covid cases in 62 out of 63 cities and provinces. Over 10,700 people have died.
