Renowned Vietnamese pianist Dang Thai Son will perform a Beethoven concerto with orchestra in Ho Chi Minh City this August.

The performance will be part of the classical music festival called "Melody of Autumn", a prominent biennial music event in Vietnam. Son’s performance will be a highlight of the festival, said a representative of Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra (HBSO), which organizes the event.

The "Melody of Autumn" festival takes place every two years in mid-August in Ho Chi Minh City. This year's program includes the premiere performance of the 1913 ballet The Rite of Spring by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky.

The organizers have been trying to get Son to perform since 2017, but he has only been able to make the time this year, Thach said. "The program will also have many talented domestic and international artists perform," he added.

Son, 61, was the first Asian artist to win the gold medal at the 10th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland in 1980. The pianist has been based in Montreal, Canada since 1991. In March 2018, he started teaching at the Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio, U.S.
