An NGO that works in areas affected by climate change will auction over 20 paintings by Vietnamese and foreign artists to raise funds for programs to boost environmental awareness.

The auction by the Song Foundation will be held in the final week of an online exhibition of the works, 'Story of the River,' which will run through July.

Huong Giang, its founder, said: "When we stop deforestation and over exploitation of river sand, we will be able to protect groundwater and the soil. The whole community needs to join hands for a more sustainable ecosystem." She said she got the idea for the exhibition after witnessing severe saltwater intrusion in rivers in the Mekong Delta and the resultant lack of water for drinking and irrigation.

The funds from the auction will be used for a community-based cultural project called ‘River Oi’ that seeks to promote creativity, corporate social responsibility, sustainable development, and environmental protection.
