Grammy winner Jeff von der Schmidt will conduct multimedia music pieces in a Hanoi concert called Streaks this Saturday.

Streaks is a multimedia concert directed by Vietnamese musician Luong Hue Trinh.

The concert will be conducted by Schmidt, who claimed Grammy Awards in 2004 and 2005 for best conductor of small ensemble, and has won eight other Grammy nominations for his compositions.

Schmidt first came to Vietnam in 2004 and has been performed here many times since. He has also conducted many concerts in different parts of the world.

Saturday’s concert will feature five music pieces written by Luong Hue Trinh, wherein the musical arrangement will have traditional music and electronic elements, together with photography and video, depicting the theme of complicated relationships, loneliness and worry.

It will include the piece "JiJi" played by zither, piccolo, bass clarinet, violin, cello and synthesizer, and "Plastic Song" for Vietnamese monochord, zither, percussion instrument and electronic instrument.

The Hanoi New Music Ensemble will perform these pieces.

Luong Hue Trinh received a master’s degree in multimedia music composition in Hamburg University of Music and Theater in Germany. The artist has been engaging in experimental music.

Her compositions have been played on radios in many countries including Thailand, India, Australia, Canada and the U.K. Her first album, Illusions, was listed among the best albums of the year by the U.S. music magazine Avant Music News in 2016.

The concert, organized by L'Espace and Goethe Institute Vietnam, will take place at the music hall of L'Espace French Culture Center in Hanoi on Saturday night.
