The third Krossing Over Arts Festival to be held in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in April will feature some exquisite performances.

With the theme "Roots", a metaphoric image linked to our ancestors, the two-week-long arts festival will feature 10 multidisciplinary, collaborative performances that will seek to awaken audiences’ memories of their origin and the tradition of gratitude towards the older generations for their sacrifices, according to the festival website.

The event, organised by the French Institute in Vietnam and Kerman Company, will feature more than 30 international artists like French choreographer Kader Attou and South Korean choreographer Sunyoung Grace Lim.

The opening contemporary dance act named Nguong Cua Lang Quen (At the Gates of Oblivion), telling a story about the connection to ancestors and delivered by art director Sébastien Ly along with two Vietnamese and two French dancers, will be the highlight of Krossing Over Arts Festival (KOAF).

There will also be a number of interactive activities such as short films by independent filmmakers and choreographers that reflect the festival’s overarching theme, artists’ talks and introductory workshops on contemporary dance.

It will be held in HCMC from April 5-11 and Hanoi from April 13-21.

Launched in 2017 by Ly with support from the French Institute in Vietnam, the festival seeks to promote contemporary dance in the country.

It is all about intersections: between contemporary dance and other art forms; between local and international artistic approaches; and between the public and artists.
