Vera Quartet from the Curtis Institute of Music in the U.S. will perform in Ho Chi Minh City on April 20.

They will perform three classical works by Beethoven, Hungarian composer Béla Bartók and Bright Sheng, a Chinese-American composer nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1989.

The quartet is expected to tell the audience the story of Beethoven as an artist against a starry sky and introduce Hungarian folk melody through Bartók’s piece and an artist's personal experience when visiting a forgotten Buddhist space in Bright Sheng’s music work.

"Chamber music is not as difficult to listen to as we usually think," a spokesperson for Vera Quartet said.

"If the audience lets themselves be connected, anyone can listen to and understand the music."

String quartets usually comprise two violins and a cello and a viola. The Curtis Institute of Music is a prestigious conservatory in Philadelphia.

The quartet has won several prizes including the Grand Prize at Plowman and Yellow Springs chamber music competitions, top prizes at the M-Prize Chamber Arts Competition, and the St. Lawrence Award from the Wigmore Hall String Quartet Competition.

Since its establishment in 2015, the ensemble has toured Spain, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Japan.

The Vera Quarter performed a classical piece by Béla Bartók.
