According to The Star, in an interview with Taiwanese media, Kung shared that he and Tan are planning to celebrate their union with two wedding ceremonies later this year—one in Los Angeles and the other in Tan’s home country of Malaysia, in Putrajaya.
Kung explained that he met Tan online in 2023. After being captivated by her beauty, he decided to reach out to her via social media, marking the beginning of their relationship.
The singer also recounted a humorous misunderstanding when he sought Tan’s father’s blessing before proposing to her in Bangkok, Thailand.
"When I asked for his approval, he replied, ‘I’m not sure yet,’" Kung said, noting the confusion it caused. However, Kung went ahead and proposed in secret, later realizing that his future father-in-law was not questioning the relationship, but was simply uncertain if Kung would follow through with the proposal.
"It was the biggest misunderstanding of my life!" Kung said.
At 44, Kung debuted in 2001 and quickly earned recognition in the music industry, with his first album winning the Golden Melody Award for Best New Artist.
Tan holds a master’s degree in education from the University of Melbourne, Australia, and has been working as a teacher for the past seven years.
Her reported uncle Lee Shin Cheng was the chairman of IOI Corp., one of Malaysia’s largest palm oil companies, with an estimated net worth of US$5.4 billion before his passing in June 2019, according to Forbes.
