In its statement, MGI declared the immediate termination of Gupta’s title.
"This decision follows her failure to fulfill her assigned duties, engagement in external projects without prior approval from the organization, and refusal to participate in the scheduled trip to Guatemala," the statement read.
"As a result, the organization has resolved to revoke her title with immediate effect. Miss Rachel Gupta is no longer authorized to use the title or wear the crown associated with Miss Grand International 2024."
Shortly after the announcement, Gupta posted a separate statement on Instagram, saying she chose to step down due to "broken promises, mistreatment, and a toxic environment" after her coronation. She stressed that her decision was made after careful consideration and promised to release a full video explaining her reasons.
"The truth will come out very soon," Gupta wrote, hinting at further revelations.
Gupta, 22, is the first Indian to win the Miss Grand International title, having previously been crowned Miss Grand India 2024 and Miss Super Talent of the World 2022.
Founded in 2013 by Thai TV host and producer Nawat Itsaragrisil, MGI is known for its humanitarian focus, with winners advocating for charitable causes during their reign. Contestants earn their places through national competitions, internal casting, or appointments by franchise holders from various countries and regions.
Before Gupta, several other MGI titleholders were also stripped of their titles.
