The actress, whose birthday falls on Dec. 8, took to Instagram on Dec. 9 to post a snapshot of the celebration. In the photo, she and Leung are seen posing with a birthday cake shaped like a pineapple bun, with Lau adding a caption in Chinese: "Simple, happy."
The celebration extended beyond her family, as the cast and crew of "The Truth About Lying," an upcoming play starring Lau, also marked her special day. On Dec. 7, the actress posted a photo on Instagram, which shows she receiving a bouquet of flowers and a painting of her two pet dogs, along with two additional cakes, from the crew.
Lau’s co-star Harriet Yeung also shared a birthday message on her social media on Dec. 8, wishing Lau happiness, health, and beauty, and expressing anticipation for the upcoming opening night.
Lau started her acting career in 1984 and gained fame in the 1980s with several successful drama series. Her film roles, including her performances in the "Infernal Affairs" sequels and Wong Kar-wai’s "2046," have enhanced her international profile.
Her husband Leung, 62, began his acting career in 1982 and is considered one of Asia’s most prominent and internationally recognized actors. He is especially noted for his collaborations with Wong Kar-wai, appearing in seven films including "In the Mood for Love," for which he received the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival.
The couple married in 2008.
