Vietnam to play U23 Asian Cup with SEA Games winning players

The new U23 coach Gong Oh-kyun has chosen more than half of the squad that just won SEA Games 31 gold into the official list for U23 Asian Cup.

Keys players like keeper Nguyen Van Toan, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Nguyen Thanh Binh, Ly Cong Hoang Anh, Le Van Do, Nham Manh Dung and a few more were confirmed in the list announced by Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) on Monday.

The remaining players were selected by coach Gong after the recent training period in Hanoi.

The team will gather for training at the VFF headquarters on Tuesday before going to the UAE on a training trip. Vietnam are also scheduled to play a friendly game with U23 UAE on May 28. One day later, the team will fly to Uzbekistan to compete in U23 Asian Cup.

In this tournament, Vietnam are in group C and will play Thailand on June 2, South Korea on June 5, and Malaysia three days later.

2022 U23 Asian Cup will take place from June 1 to 19. This will be Gong's first tournament as the coach of the U23 team, when Park Hang-seo will focus solely on coaching the national team.

The U23 team are on an unbeaten and clean sheet streak. They played 12 games, won 11, drew one and scored 19 goals.
