Vietnam keeper places 10th in world's best futsal goalie award

Ho Van Y finished 10th and last in the vote for Best Men’s Goalkeeper in the World at Futsalplanet Awards on Wednesday.

Y got 21 points, while the winner Thiago "Guitta" Mendes of Brazil received 299. In 2018, Y was also shortlisted for the honor.

Futsal World Cup 2021 in Lithuania was Vietnam's second time the tournament. They made it past the group stage both times.

On average, Y made over 10 saves for Vietnam per game. Thanks to his contributions, Vietnam posted one win, one draw and one loss, which was enough for them to advance. In the round of 16, Vietnam were eliminated after losing 2-3 to world number four Russia.

Finishing second and third behind Guitta is another Brazlian keeper, Leonardo "Higuita" Leite and Argentina’s Nicolas Sarmiento. Higuita is the record holder in this category with five wins.

Best Men’s Player in the World was given to Brazilian forward Carlos Ferrao, while Best National Team is Portugal, the champions of Futsal World Cup 2021.

Futsalplanet Awards, presented by the renowned magazine FutsalPlanet, are awarded to the best individuals in international futsal every year. It's often considered the "Ballon D’Or" of futsal.
