The Vietnam U22 team are in group B with Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Laos according to the SEA Games 32 football draw on Wednesday.

Vietnam, as the winner of the previous tournament, were among the first-seeded teams with hosts Cambodia, while Thailand and Indonesia were in the second-seeded group, Malaysia with Myanmar in the third. This put the three top teams of Southeast Asia, Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore into a tough group B.

The five teams in group A are Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines and Timor Leste.

Vietnam won the SEA Games men's football gold medal in the last two events, beating Indonesia 3-0 in the final of 2019 and Thailand 1-0 in the final of 2022.

Thailand have won the most gold medals at the tournament - 13, followed by Malaysia with five.

SEA Games 32 men's football divides 10 teams into two groups to play in a round-robin format with the two teams of each group entering the semifinals.

Vietnam will play the group stage matches at Prince Stadium with a capacity of 15,000.

The final and third-place playoff will take place at Morodok Techo National Stadium with a capacity of 60,000.

The matches of group A will take place on April 29, May 2, 7 and 10. Group B matches will be played on April 30, May 3, 8 and 11. The semifinals will take place on May 13 and three days later is the final.

Vietnam women's football team are also placed into a strong group, with Philippines, Myanmar, Malaysia and Indonesia. Vietnam and Philippines are the only two representatives of Southeast Asia in the 2023 Women’s World Cup. Thailand are in group B, with hosts Cambodia, Singapore and Laos. This group has fewer teams and also easier opponents.

Vietnam have won the most women’s football gold medals with seven, followed by Thailand with five.

The matches of women's football will take place at two locations in Phnom Penh, Army Stadium (8,000 seats) and Smart RSN Stadium (5,000 seats) from April 29 to May 16.
