If Vietnam can beat Thailand in the final of AFF U23 Youth Championship in Cambodia Saturday night, it’ll be their longest winning streak at the U23 level.

Vietnam have won five consecutive games, against Taiwan and Myanmar in the U23 Asian Cup qualifiers last year, and in AFF U23 Youth Championship this year, they have beaten Singapore, Thailand and Timor Leste.

In the final, Vietnam will face Thailand again and this is a chance for them to break the old record established in 2018 Asian Games, when Vietnam made it to the semifinals.

After the semifinal with Timor Leste, Vietnam had two injured players and one newly detected Covid-19 case on the team during the test Friday morning. Therefore, they have only 10 players left to prepare for the final. Previously, 24 out of 27 players registered for the tournament contracted Covid and Vietnam had to call up more players.

On Friday, Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) sought permission from ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) to send Vietnam reinforcements for the final with Thailand.

The final will take place at 7:30 p.m., Saturday and will be reported live on VnExpress International.
