National defender Tran Dinh Trong has left top domestic club Hanoi FC before the 2022 V. League begins.

The next club for Trong is expected to be Topenland Binh Dinh, where he will work with old mentor Nguyen Duc Thang, who used to coach Saigon FC.

Trong is a homegrown product of Hanoi FC youth academy. He won the national championship with the U19 and U21 team of Hanoi from 2014-2016. Later, he was loaned out to Saigon FC. In 2018, he returned to Hanoi and contributed a big part to the club’s titles like the 2018, 2019 V. League, the 2019, 2020 National Cup and the 2018, 2019, 2020 Super Cup.

On the national team, Trong is a key factor in the defensive line that helped Vietnam finish second in 2018 AFC U23 Championship and 2018 AFF Cup.

However, when Trong was at his best form, injuries slowed him down and it took him a year to return.

After playing at 2020 AFC U23 Asian Cup, Trong’s injury recurred. He missed many matches in V. League and was often absent when Vietnam played World Cup qualifiers. At 2021 AFF Cup, Trong was called up to the national team but he was rarely used by coach Park Hang-seo.

The new season of V. League is set to start on Feb. 17.
