Placed at the bottom of group F with just one point, Indonesia trail second-placed Vietnam by two points and aim to turn that around by securing victories in both matches or at least clinch one win and a draw against Vietnam, thus propelling themselves ahead in the race for the 2026 World Cup third qualifying round.

Their morale received a significant boost following Indonesia's 1-0 triumph over Vietnam in their recent encounter during the group stage of the 2023 Asian Cup earlier this year. This victory marked their first win against Vietnam since the 2016 AFF Cup. Additionally, Indonesia have bolstered their ranks with the inclusion of more naturalized players from Europe.

Expressing his team's determination, striker Egy Maulana Vikri conveyed to the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI), "All players are eyeing a win. I am hopeful that the team will display their utmost capabilities to overcome Vietnam."

Defender Justin Hubner is eagerly anticipating the electrifying atmosphere at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, boasting a capacity of nearly 80,000 spectators. The 22-year-old was enthralled by the fervent ambiance during Indonesia's match against Argentina in mid-2023.

"I anticipate an even more incredible atmosphere during the match against Vietnam," Hubner said. "I am committed to not disappointing the fans. Rest assured, I will leave everything on the field for them."

Regarded as one of the most fiery fan bases and stadiums in the world, Gelora Bung Karno stands as a bastion of strength for Indonesia as they prepare to take on Vietnam.

Hubner, fresh off a move from Premier League club Wolves to J1 League club Cerezo Osaka, is among the 10 naturalized players handpicked by coach Shin Tae-yong for the 28-man squad for the Vietnam clash. Joining him are familiar faces such as Jordi Amat, Sandy Walsh, Marc Klok, Ivar Jenner, and Rafael Struick, who featured prominently during the 2023 Asian Cup. The squad also see the inclusion of new recruits Jay Idzes, Nathan Tjoe-A-On, Thom Haye, and Ragnar Oratmagoen.

Defender Nathan Tjoe-A-On is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to play and soak in the passionate support of Indonesian fans. He remains optimistic about Indonesia's potential and envisions significant growth in the next two to five years.

"Indonesian football is rapidly evolving," stated the SC Heerenveen defender. "I aspire to continually improve to contribute to that progress."

However, coach Shin is facing setbacks with the absence of captain Asnawi Mangkualam due to suspension and midfielder Marc Klok sidelined with an injury. Additionally, Thom Haye and Ragnar Oratmagoen from the Netherlands are ineligible to play as they have yet to complete the naturalization procedure.

The highly anticipated match is scheduled for March 21 at 8:30 p.m. (Hanoi time) and will be reported live on VnExpress International.
