Michelin will award restaurants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with its stars for the first time to honor Vietnamese culinary quintessence.

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guide, will announce the list of restaurants at a ceremony in Hanoi on the evening of Tuesday.

Since December last year, Michelin inspectors have independently arrived in Hanoi and HCMC to evaluate the restaurants, using global methodology that includes factors such as the personality of the chef represented in the cuisine, harmony of flavors, mastery of cooking techniques, quality of ingredients, and consistency over time and across the entire menu.

In addition to the prestigious star rating system, Poullennec will release a list of Michelin-recommended restaurants, and winners of Michelin Guide Special Awards and the "Bib Gourmand" award category for restaurants that offer delicious food at affordable prices.

In the Michelin system, one star signifies a very good restaurant, two stars are excellent cooking that is worth a detour, and three stars means exceptional cuisine that is worth a special journey.

According to the Michelin Guide website, there are over 3,000 Michelin-starred restaurants in nearly 40 different countries.
