The fight broke out between two 8th graders at Vo Van Kiet middle and high school in the southern province of Kien Giang on March 27.
In a video clip spanning 2.5 minutes that went viral on social media, the two girls had a verbal fight, before launching into one another and trading blows.
One of the girls pinned the other onto the floor, smashing her head and repeatedly punching her.
The girl then demanded an apology from the other girl for the beating to stop. Two other schoolgirls of the same grade witnessed what happened, with one recording the incident while the other occasionally joined in the fight.
Nguyen Thanh Dien, vice principal of the school, on Thursday said the school had discussed the matter with the parents of the involved students.
The girl who received the beating had gotten a health check-up, which revealed no abnormalities.
The school suspended the schoolgirl who beat her friend for two weeks. The other two girls who recorded the incident and participated in the beating got suspended for a week and three days, respectively.
Vo Van Kiet school has around 1,600 students and 80 staff.
