Actress Kieu Trinh and TV host Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen will star in HBO series adaptation ‘The Sympathizer' with Robert Downey Jr.

Based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning debut novel of the same name, the satirical drama, co-produced by giant TV network HBO and indie film company A24, tells the story of a half-French, half-Vietnamese spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his exile in the U.S.

HBO set the main cast for ‘The Sympathizer’ following a worldwide online open casting call across the U.S., Canada, U.K., Europe, Australia and Vietnam.

Besides Trinh and Duyen, the series will feature another Asian actress, Sandra Oh, who won the Golden Globe for her roles in series like Grey’s Anatomy and Killing Eve.

Downey Jr. will produce and play multiple supporting roles and the main antagonist in the series. Renowned South Korea filmmaker Park Chan-wook will direct and serve as executive producer with Don McKellar. Vietnamese-Swedish actor Kim Ly is another producer on the series.
