After being fined for failing to apply in advance for a permit to sing live from his own balcony, singer Tuan Hung has been officially authorized to do so again.

His upcoming concert, to be held this Saturday, has been greenlighted by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, the singer announced on Facebook.

Titled "Balcony Corner," Tuan Hung plans to organize his live program once a month for free in order to create a cultural venue for Hanoi residents right from his house on Hang Khay Street, which fronts Hoan Kiem Lake.

The application for a permit at the municipal culture department will have to be renewed every month for each new show.

Earlier, Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee fined Tuan Hung VND12.5 million ($530) for holding a "Balcony Corner" show on Sept. 3 without permission. The concert, which also featured some other singers, attracted thousands of fans.

For this Saturday concert, which will also be livestreamed free of charge and include singers Minh Quan, Anh Quan Idol, Minh Vuong and Dinh Ung Phi Truong, Tuan Hung said he had hired a few security guards to work with district police to ensure public order.

Dubbed ‘Thank You’, the singer said he dedicated this show to both fans and local authorities who had encouraged and facilitated his activities despite some minor administrative discipline.

Well-known for his strong voice and numerous pop music hits, Tuan Hung has recently been appointed vice chair of the Hanoi Young Arists Association under the Vietnam Youth Federation.
