During the trip, she meets tour guide Sinh (Scott Ly) and changes her itinerary on his suggestion. The two visit several places together, and right at the moment they realise their feelings for each other her ex-boyfriend shows up. Now she has to choose between the two men.

The trailer takes viewers to several destinations in Vietnam, including Thu Bon River in Hoi An, My Son Sanctuary in Quang Nam, Ben Thanh Market in Ho Chi Minh City, and majestic villages in Ha Giang.

Vietnamese actor Le Thien appears as a local man who is friendly towards foreign visitors.

"A Tourist’s Guide To Love" is the first foreign film to be shot in Vietnam after the government lifted social distancing at the end of 2021.

Directed by Steven K. Tsuchida and with Dustin Nguyen as consulting producer, it will stream on Netflix from April 21.

Eirene Donohue, its Vietnamese-American scriptwriter, said the plot was inspired by her exploration of roots in Vietnam.

A Netflix spokesperson said the movie would hopefully showcase Vietnam’s varied and vibrant culture.

Cook, who is also its producer, compared the movie to "a love letter to Vietnam in all its glory, with heart and humour."
