Live shows breathe new life into music scene

Last Sunday, diva My Tam hosted live show "Tri Am" (rough translation: Soulmate) at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi that was attended by 30,000 fans.

The show had been postponed for three years because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

My Tam gave her fans quite a show, performing more than 40 songs over three and a half hours. The singer said the live show was one of the biggest in her career. Considerable investment and care went into the show, with impressive stage effects and fabulous costumes.

Rising artist Hoang Dung held a live show called "Yen Concert" at Hanoi’s Quan Ngua Sports Complex on November 4 in collaboration with other young artists on the rise like singer Orange, rapper Gducky and the Mau Nuoc Band.

Meanwhile, singer Ho Ngoc Ha has announced a project called "Love Songs – Long Vietnam," which is a series of concerts that will be held in tourist hotspots Da Lat, HCMC and Da Nang.

Da Lat will be the first destination of the tour starting November 13. Tickets were sold out in less than 24 hours. The location for the show will be a romantic, classical garden at a hotel in Da Lat. Ho Ngoc Ha is set to perform at least 20 of her hit songs in the concerts.

Contemporary artist Tung Duong is organizing a concert to mark 20 years of singing on November 25 at the National Convention Center in Hanoi, with a star-studded guest list including two Vietnamese divas Tran Thu Ha and Thanh Lam, singer Uyen Linh and Dao To Loan, one of the top opera artists in Vietnam.

On November 19, famous songwriter Duc Tri is holding a live show with many famous artists and bands like diva Phuong Thanh, Ho Ngoc Ha, Le Hieu and the Saigon Pops Orchestra. The show, organized and set up by Tri himself, will use the natural landscape of Da Lat as a stage.

A notable aspect of the live shows being organized this year is the heavy investment in quality, creativity and spectacle that seeks to establish a kind of brand value and recognition for the artists.

At his "Yen Concert," Hoang Dung performed 30 songs with a live band on a stage hosting a fully furnished beautiful house that could rotate 360 degrees. The stage crew also set up backdrops like a flower garden and a forest to set the mood and invite the audience into it.

"We wanted to bring a stage that constantly changes the visual experience of the audience. Everything from the light, the color and the house were adjusted regularly to suit each performance," stage director Duong Mai Viet Anh told the Thanh Nien Newspaper.

Tung Duong is also determined that his 20th-anniversary concert will present something new and more creative.

"The hardest thing for me is to make each show better than the last, to stay creative and overcome my limitations. I want to give them a new experience," he said. "We will keep up with the latest trends and tastes while doing what we like."

According to songwriter Duc Tri, the audience is returning to their habit of going to concerts and many shows are selling out.

"As musicians, we really like this because it proves that the current audience has a need to enjoy live music and go to concerts."
