A man in Central Highlands' Lam Dong Province was detained for breaking the arm of a traffic police officer after being requested to stop for an alcohol check.

Nguyen Vu Nhat Quang, 44, was detained by police of Bao Loc City on Friday to be investigated for resisting law enforcement and deliberate infliction of bodily harm upon another person.

At 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, a traffic police patrol team of Bao Loc was checking for alcohol level violations on Huynh Thuc Khang Street when they saw Quang riding a motorbike, showing signs of being drunk.

The team requested him to stop for a check-up, but Quang rode away instead. Senior lieutenant Doan Nhat Ha and his colleagues then chased after the motorbike. Quang refused to stop and continued to ride towards his home on Mac Dinh Chi Street.

Authorities said that upon getting to his house’s gates, Quang told his family members to take the motorbike inside. When Ha tried to stop the motorbike from entering the house, Quang used a metal bar to beat Ha, to the point of breaking his arm. Quang was later incapacitated by the police. His alcohol level was 0.378 milligrams per liter of breath.
