Ta Long Hy, 72, has taken over as general director of taxi giant Vinasun for a five-year term from Dang Thi Lan Phuong.

Hy, a former standing deputy general director, has been with the firm for 17 years and steadily advanced up the ranks.

He has been the president of the HCMC Taxi Association for more than 10 years.

Phuong has been made deputy director of finance and accounting.

The changes were made by a board of directors seeking to end the company’s two-year losing streak this year "at any cost" to avoid delisting from the stock market.

After losses of VND277 billion and VND210 billion in 2021 and 2020, it targets profits of VND27.3 billion ($1.2 million) this year.

The company reported profits of VND12 billion in the first quarter this year.

Speaking to VnExpress after the inauguration, Hy said: "I guarantee that Vinasun’s stock will not be delisted."

The company plans to buy 156 vehicles this year to expand its fleet to around 2,620, and focus on restoring market share in HCMC urban areas and elsewhere in the south such as Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces.
