Lottery companies in the south reported sales of VND35 trillion ($1.5 billion) in the first quarter, a 22% year-on-year increase.

They paid out total prize money of VND17 trillion.

Of the 21 companies, 14 sold 100% of their tickets in provinces like Soc Trang, Ben Tre, Bac Lieu, Tay Ninh, and An Giang.

Do Quang Vinh, general manager of the HCMC Lottery Company and president of the Southern Lottery Council, said business has seen good growth due to several factors, including the Ministry of Finance's permission to increase sales since the beginning of the year.

Tran Van Lau, chairman of the Soc Trang people's committee, said the lottery contributed greatly to provinces’ finances.

Soc Trang received VND1.6 trillion in 2022 and VND750 billion so far this year, or 50% of its total revenues.
