The Bac Giang Department of Transport has petitioned the Ministry of Transport to convert the province’s Kep military airport into a joint military-civilian facility.

It has sought the incorporation of this change in the 2021-30 national airport development plan. Kep airport is situated in Lang Giang District.

The department said that travel demand is increasing and the conversion would also help attract foreign investment, promote tourism and foster the province’s economy.

Bac Giang is 60 kilometers from Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport and 120 kilometers from Hai Phong’s Cat Bi International Airport.

Several others have also been demanding airports, including the northern provinces of Ha Giang, Ninh Binh and Cao Bang, the central provinces of Ha Tinh and Ninh Thuan, the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, and Hanoi. The capital wants a second airport.
