Raised in Miami, Lili Buffett relocated to New York for her studies. She earned a degree in economics and philosophy from Columbia University.

Lili is married to Howard W. Buffett, the grandson of Warren Buffett, who teaches as a professor at Columbia University, where she went to. Howard is a philanthropist, political consultant, political scientist, and writer.

Howard was previously the executive director of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, a private philanthropic foundation that funds initiatives to improve standard of living and quality of life at many regions in the world.

Lili and Howard have been married for 14 years and they have a son named Thomas, whom she described as "intelligent, funny, and sweet."

Since her time at university, Lili Buffett has been passionate about humanitarian causes, including poverty alleviation, gender equality, and universal healthcare access.

She was a member of the Goalkeepers Advisory Board for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation until late 2022 and now serves on the Advisory Board of the Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, according to the zoo’s website.

At 39, she remains a strong advocate for the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
