One of Apple’s few premium resellers in Vietnam, eDigi, announced it is closing down due to declining sales.

Imex Pan Pacific Group (IPPG), whose chairman is luxury retailer and tycoon Johnathan Hanh Nguyen, established eDigi in a prime location in Ho Chi Minh City next to the Post Office in the central business district in 2018. Apple premium reseller is authorized reseller situated in a prime location.

Nguyen told VnExpress on Wednesday that the decision to close was made because demand for technology devices was becoming weaker and weaker.

Besides, eDigi could not compete with Apple products brought from abroad by travelers at cheaper prices.

IPPG would focus on its three core businesses, fashion, airport services and F&B, he said.

The announcement of eDigi’s closure comes a day before Apple opens its online store in Vietnam on May 18.

Apple Store will sell hardware, accessories and services next week, and offer personalized services such as name engraving on devices.

After a period of rapid growth Apple authorized resellers and Apple premium resellers in Vietnam are seeing demand slow down, forcing them to slash prices.

iPhone prices often used to be several million dong higher at Apple resellers than at smaller stores, but this price gap disappeared recently, and now the iPhone 14 Pro Max is even cheaper at major resellers due to promotions.

The remaining premium resellers in Vietnam include TopZone of The Gioi Di Dong (Mobile World) and F.Studio of FPT Shop.
