Vietnam secured position as the top team of Group G by beating Indonesia in the second round of World Cup qualifiers, with only one game to play against hosts UAE.

Vietnam took an early lead when Nguyen Tien Linh scored from a header in the 27th minute.

Trying to secure a win, Vietnam made several substitutions in the second half to strengthen their defense, but Malaysia were awarded a penalty in the 72nd minute after Doan Van Hau fouled Guilherme de Paula, who took the shot successfully.

Both teams immediately upped their offense. 10 minutes later, the referee handed the game's second penalty to Vietnam as Nguyen Van Toan was fouled.

Captain Que Ngoc Hai took the shot and he succeeded.

It was an intense game as a victory was crucial for both teams. Six yellow cards were given during the game, five for Malaysian players and one for Vietnam coach Park Hang-seo for overreacting.

With three more points, Vietnam continue to lead Group G and only need to draw the UAE in their next game on Tuesday to advance to the final ground of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
