Vietnam defeated South Korea 7-6 on penalties (2-2 in regular time) to finish third in the 2026 U23 Asian Cup.

The semi-final defeats have fueled determination in both Vietnam and South Korea to win today's third-place match. With their dreams of winning the championship shattered, this is their last chance to overcome the pain of defeat and restore their pride. This match is also an opportunity for coach Kim Sang-sik to prove his capabilities against his home country's team, after failing to fulfill his promise to reach the final.

The third-place match is also a chance for Kim to demonstrate his ability to restore his players' spirit. He wants them to continue showing high determination against a strong opponent and prove that their progress is well-deserved.
